Hi ya'll!
It's a dark, gloomy, rainy day here in NOLA. It's also very reflective of probably more than half of the city's moods today, since LSU got horribly beaten last night. I felt really aggravated with the game, with the quarterback, with Les (who, I love, btw!), and just the whole team, really. I mean, seriously, how can a team that went 13-0 look that bad?! And, to top it off, I lost precious sleep!
I then got taught a lesson on humility this morning.
As I heard the news and the somber stories of all of last night's festivities, this quote from Les Miles stuck out: "I told my team I did not see it coming. And that's my fault. I wish I could have done something to help them."
Wow. I think of all the times I screwed up--be it at work, with something for family, in ministry, whatever...isn't it always our first instinct to just defend whatever happened and sort of spin it around? You never want to make yourself look bad, right? But, post-game, immediately after, this came out of the mouth of the coach that probably is the most hated person in Louisiana. He admitted defeat, admitted his faults, and he showed his vulnerability. For that, I admire Les Miles and I hope his example of humility can show us all, even when we're trying to be the best we can be or even when we're trying to be more than we are, that being humble is what we're truly called to be.
I'll be thinking more about this throughout the day, I'm sure...and, thinking that for now, I'll give Les some slack. ;)
